Our Neighbourhood - Kitsilano
If you've spent any time in Vancouver, we don't need to tell you why Kitsilano
is an even better place to stay than the downtown peninsula. But if you've
never been here, you need to know what our neighbourhood has to offer. |
Kitsilano Beaches
Do
you crave the sound of the waves? Access to a quiet stretch of Kitsilano's
English Bay is two short blocks from our door (we'll lend you a picnic
basket); Kitsilano Beach Park is an easy six blocks east, while Jericho
Beach and Spanish Banks are half a mile or so west. They offer swimming,
kayaking and wind surfing in summer, beachcombing year-round, and awesome
views of the North Shore mountains, Stanley Park, and the downtown highrises. |
Kitsilano Restaurants
Have
you heard about Vancouver's eclectic cuisine? Among dozens of recommendable
restaurants nearby are three of the region's best - Lumière, Bishop's and Mistral -
all about a ten-minute walk from the Corkscrew Inn. |
Kitsilano Shopping
Are
you coming for a shopping expedition? While downtown's trendy Robson Street
is easily accessible, we recommend the hundreds of shops of all sorts to
be found nearby on Fourth Avenue (two blocks south) and on Broadway (seven
blocks south). The art galleries and antique shops of South Granville are
only twelve blocks east. |
Arts and Entertainment
Granville
Island, with its famous public market, artisan shops, theatres, museums,
boat rentals, restaurants and micro-breweries, is about a twenty-minute
walk away from the Corkscrew Inn. Into the music scene? Great sounds can
be heard live at any number of local venues, including the Jazz Cellar
and Rossini's. |
Well-being
Planning
to burn off some of those gourmet calories? You'll find free public tennis
courts half a block away in Tatlow Park. Joggers and cyclists have their
favourite routes through our neighbourhood, especially the sea wall. The
local outdoor Kitsilano pool was at one time the largest pool in North
America, 6 laps = 1 mile. Looking for places to stroll? Just about any
street in this early 1900's residential area offers fine old houses and
gardens to wander past. Leave the late-night traffic noise downtown when
you come home to the Corkscrew Inn after an evening out. |
Kitsilano Location: Convenience for the business traveller
Vancouver's
downtown core is a five-minute drive, fifteen minute bus or bicycle ride,
or half-hour walk away along oceanfront Cornwall Avenue and the Burrard
Street bridge. Academic business? The University of British Columbia is
about fifteen minutes away by car or express bus. We are served by numerous transit routes.
